Chelsea Painters bring their ‘Collective Inspirations’ to The Gallery at Washtenaw Community College

ANN ARBOR, Michigan (September 14, 2026) – From sweeping landscapes to expressive figurative work, a wide range of artistic visions will come together in a new exhibition at The Gallery at Washtenaw Community College.
 
An opening reception for “Collective Inspirations: Works from the Chelsea Painters” will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
 
The exhibition, which runs through Dec. 18, is free and open to the public.
 
Chelsea Painters is a diverse group of artists whose members are active in the arts locally, regionally and nationally. The invitation-only organization is limited to 25 active artists and meets weekly from September through May in Chelsea.
 
In addition to painting together, members participate in monthly critiques, art discussions, demonstrations and other opportunities to share their knowledge. Each January, the group also gathers for a three-day “Paintathon.”
 
The group’s mission is to create a mutually supportive community in which artists encourage one another, strengthen their artistic vision and pursue individual growth. Its members work in a variety of media, with styles ranging from abstract to realism and everything in between.
 
Works featured in promotional materials for the exhibition include Susan Clinthorne’s “Fields of Ireland,” an acrylic painting; Linda Klenczar’s pastel “Superior Bay”; Tina Hotchkiss’ watercolor and colored pencil piece “October Song”; and Tracy Lyons’ “Remembrance.”
 
The Gallery at WCC is located inside the Morris J. Lawrence Building, 4800 E. Huron River Drive, Ann Arbor.
 
Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. The Gallery is also open during staffed events in the Morris Lawrence Building and by request outside posted hours.
