Adults 21+ now eligible for Michigan Reconnect Scholarship

ANN ARBOR, Michigan (August 20, 2026) – The State of Michigan’s Reconnect program has expanded its reach to help more adult students pursue their dreams through a college education.

 

The minimum age to qualify for the State of Michigan’s Reconnect program has been lowered from 25 to 21, in time for the fall semester.

 

Washtenaw Community College (WCC) classes begin Monday, August 31. The college also offers three later state dates for the fall semester. Prospective students may apply for enrollment and register for classes until each start.

 

Reconnect was created to help adults who do not have a college degree enroll at any of the state’s community colleges to pursue an associate or skill certificate.

The scholarship covers in-district tuition and fees after other scholarships and forms of aid have been applied.

 

With WCC’s tuition already the lowest in the state, at $99 per credit for in-district students, the Michigan Reconnect scholarship makes a college education at WCC even more affordable. WCC offers 140 programs – including 50 completely online – to prepare students for high-demand jobs.

 

Eligibility criteria are:

  • Be at least 21 years old when you apply
  • Be a Michigan resident for a year or more
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Have not yet completed a college degree (associate or bachelor's).
  • You must apply for the scholarship with the State of Michigan.
