June 1, Historic Presentation Night at Yankee Air Museum
Adam Franti, Eastern Michigan University Graduate Assistant, will speak on the key role Michigan played during the War of 1812. This is the last war fought on Michigan soil and military actions at Detroit and Mackinac will be described. The first major land event during the war occurred with the British planning a surprise attack and capturing Fort Mackinac on July 17, 1812. British control of Fort Mackinac remained until the end of the war. Other major battles occurred in Detroit, particularly the Battle of Frenchtown and River Raisin Massacre.
