Intro to Meditative Drawing
There is a misconception that fun, play, and creating art distract people from being productive and focused. In reality, the opposite is true. Fun, play, and creating art can lead to increased focus, improved well-being, and greater productivity. The dictionary tells us that to doodle is to scribble absentmindedly and that a doodle is a drawing or pattern that you make while thinking about something else or when you are bored. In her TED Talk, Sunni Brown redefined “to doodle” to mean to make spontaneous marks to help yourself think. I like that definition much better.
In the Intro to Meditative Drawing workshop we will spend our time together using the Zentangle® method to create beautiful abstract art by drawing structured patterns, called tangles. The tangles will be broken down into steps making it easy (and fun) for all ages and abilities to draw! Be prepared to break any limiting beliefs about your ability to draw, because you will discover that anything is possible one stroke at a time. Learn the foundation for meditative drawing and three to five different tangle patterns. Materials are included, the only thing you need to bring to class is a willingness to be open to the possibilities. This class satisfies the prerequisite for Intermediate and Advanced Meditative Drawing workshops. Tangles taught at the workshops will be varied; you will learn new tangles each time you take this workshop.
