A2Y DEI Series: Dr. Katrina Wade-Golden, University of Michigan DEI Strategic Plan
DEI Strategic Planning & Implementation at the University of Michigan
Please join us on February 3 to hear from Dr. Katrina Wade-Golden, Associate Vice Provost and Deputy Chief Diversity Officer at the University of Michigan Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI). Dr. Golden will share with us the University's strategic plan and its impact on the university, its students and the community, as a whole. She will also provide tips that you may use within your organization to assist with hiring, retention and creating a pleasant work environment.
During this session, Dr. Katrina Wade-Golden will explore the historical context and ongoing efforts of DEI at the University of Michigan. DEI initiatives at U-M have been an ongoing priority since 2016, beginning with the launch of the DEI Strategic Plan ("DEI 1.0"). This plan established a comprehensive framework to foster a more inclusive and equitable campus. Over its five-year duration, DEI 1.0 achieved significant outcomes, such as increased awareness of DEI issues, enhanced support systems, and improved campus climate.
Building on the successes and lessons learned from DEI 1.0, the presentation will then outline the future strategies under DEI 2.0. The next phase emphasizes measurable impacts, greater accountability, and the continuous improvement of DEI policies and practices. The strategic focus areas include strengthening community engagement, advancing equitable access to resources, and promoting an inclusive environment for all university members. The insights shared will highlight the broader implications of U-M's DEI work and its significance in creating positive change, both within the university and in the wider community.
