Bob Sutherland founded Cherry Republic in 1989 out of the attic of the Glen Lake Yacht Club. He was just finishing up college at Northern Michigan University. Through his business career, he was a Leelanau County Commissioner, a professional storyteller, and published writer on random topics from politics to swimming alone. His business has drawn national media attention-- from the cover of the Wall Street Journal to the Food Network. He is a proud board member of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. He lives in Leelanau County where he and his wife Stephanie are raising two teenage boys.
