A2Y Chamber Event: Early Edition-April 2018

At the April breakfast we will present our E3 Awards and Teacher of the Year Awards! 

The purpose of the E3 Awards program is to promote business and community growth and development by promoting educational programs designed to strengthen and expand the skill level and income potential of all within the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti area. This program recognizes educational programs and/or educators in the local K-12 schools (Ann Arbor, Lincoln, Willow Run, & Ypsilanti) that deserve to be emulated in other K-12 schools.

The programs being recognized are: 

• Project “I Got You” kindness campaign at Carpenter Elementary School in Ann Arbor. It’s a memorial project to promote kindness that has grown well beyond our local boundaries. While promoting kindness the program also emphasizes soft skills around respect and communication. They have broadened this effort with parents, teachers and community leaders.
• Cultural Arts Program at the Washtenaw Intermediate School District.  It is a program that offers creative art classes and or movement classes to young adult students with disabilities throughout the community. Some of the programs offered include: photography, painting, yoga, cardio drumming, scratch art, poetry, theater, dance, and 3D printing to mention a few.
• The Leader In Me at Erickson Elementary in Ypsilanti. It is a school wide process that focuses on teaching students the 7 Habits of Happy Kids which is derived from Steven Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The purpose is to develop students as leaders in their school and in the community.
• Lincoln High School Reach Higher Program at Lincoln High School. This program helps prepare every student for their next step after high school including a 4 year university, community college, certification programs, military options and apprenticeship opportunities. They help the students understand everything from the application process to applying for financial aid.

​The Teacher of the Year Program recognizes the great contribution teachers make in Washtenaw County and to the learning community. This award recognizes and honors teacher excellence. It does not attempt to select the “best” teacher; rather, to identify, from among many outstanding teachers, one teacher to serve as a visible and vocal representative of what is best in the profession.
The LaFontaine Family wishes to honor the amazing teachers with Washtenaw County and recognize them for their hard work and efforts they put in every single school year.

This year we will be recognizing three very worthy Teachers in Washtenaw County to honor with the LaFontaine Teacher of the Year Award. 

The teachers being recognized are:

• Ms. Kara Stemmer from Saline South & West Washtenaw Consortium for the LaFontaine Commendable Teacher Award for 2018
• Ms. Patricia Jenkins from Skyline High School, Ann Arbor Public Schools for the LaFontaine Distinguished Teacher Award for 2018
• Ms. Lisa Cope from Carpenter Elementary, Ann Arbor Public Schools is the LaFontaine Teacher of the Year for 2018
