ANN ARBOR, MICH.– In his first area appearance in 20 years, Levon Helm is coming to the Michigan Theater on March 19th. The legendary drummer-vocalist of THE BAND is known for such classics as "Up on Cripple Creek", "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" "The Weight" and "Rag Mama Rag". Acclaimed Chicago folk-rock singer Joe Pug will open the show.
Levon Helm, Grammy Winner, multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer, drummer and actor, has enjoyed a versatile career that spans almost five decades. From the early days with Ronnie Hawkins to his legendary years with Bob Dylan, Levon has been both a rudder and a sail for THE BAND and his assorted bands. He calls his drummer's stool "the best seat in the house," because he can see his fellow musicians and his audience simultaneously. In recent years, his imagination and vision conceived The Midnight Ramble Sessions, a series of live performances at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock. The monthly Rambles have been so successful they are usually sold out in advance.
