PURSUIT OF THE PODIUM: The Search for Ann Arbor's Next Celebrity Conductor

Ann Arbor — The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra announces the second voting round of Pursuit of the Podium:  The Search for Ann Arbor’s Next Celebrity Conductor. This is a fundraiser that has spanned the entirety of the A²SO’s 2011-2012 season, benefitting the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra’s extensive community-wide music education programs.
 
This brand-new special event was announced to the audience of the A²SO’s September 17 performance of Opening Night, by Executive Director of the Michigan Theater and Pursuit of the Podium’s Host Russ Collins.  

After battling 19 other finalists in the first round of voting, 10 candidates are continuing in the next round.The final 10 candidates are Rob Casalou,David Herzig, Jim Irwin, Dan Long, Linda Marshall, Robert Michalowski, Gil Omenn, MJ Quigley-Young, Jason Smith, and Larry Van Slambrook. This season’s celebrity conductor will conduct a short piece to open the A²SO’s performance of Carmina Burana at Hill Auditorium on April 21 (among other prizes).
 
Vote early and often for who YOU want to see as Ann Arbor’s first celebrity conductor! Vote online at www.a2so.com, by phone at 734.994.4801, at the A²SO office, or at any A²SO concert or event.
The public’s votes will determine the final 5, to be announced at the A²SO’s performance of Masterworks on March 17. Students may vote for their favorite finalist(s) for $1 and general members of the public can vote for $2. All proceeds benefit the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra’s music education programs.
 
The winner and Ann Arbor’s first celebrity conductor will be revealed at Carmina Burana on April 21.
 
The dollars generated by this important event go to the A²SO’s education and artistic programs that serve over 30,000 youngsters through 50 ensembles in our schools, two youth concerts, dozens of Petting Zoos and 15 free KinderConcerts for toddlers. Music Education programs help children develop critical thinking skills, improve spatial relationship skills and open new doors of opportunity and learning.
