Oct 1    Leveraging Diversity : An Ace against the "Lull"

Dr. Lee Meadows' other name is "The Lull Doctor". And for good reason! Dr. Meadows specializes in helping organizations large and small, for-profit and non-profit, public and private, escape the Lull. He defines the Lull as a Missed Opportunity and has literally written the book on how to recognize missed opportunities and turn any situation into an innovative and dynamic experience. His book, "Taking the Lull by the Horns" outlines a philosophy of situational leadership that any individual can emulate and any organization can encourage!

In his studies of what prevents the Lull, Dr. Meadows has come to firmly believe that the growing (and well documented) diversity of the workforce represents a strength that enhances the competitive edge of successful organizations. He will tell you that maximizing a team’s diverse talents is a leadership opportunity that is anchored in a specific set of actions common to successful 21st century organizations.

Building a Story That Delivers

  • Evaluate Your Target Market's Values, Purpose and Vision
  • Linking Your Experience to Your Market's Needs
  • Hope: Identifying Your Banner Call

Present, Practice and Adapt

Who Should Attend

Anyone looking for hands-on-tools and for ways to use the power of story to engage both the heads and hearts of listeners, inspiring them to action. You could be a Strategist, Innovation Maven or Mogul, Entrepreneur, Consultant, or Business Coach.

After this workshop you will have:

  • Learned why perfecting your business narrative is an important tool of leadership
  • Clarified and strengthened your understanding of your core brand and what it is you're really selling
  • Explored and prototyped case studies of effective business storytelling from highly successful entrepreneurs
  • Examined how to effectively adapt and apply your business narrative for print, traditional and social media

Pre-requisites & Preparation

Bravery
The work we'll be doing together will be tough at times because we will be challenging you to step into the personal side of your business journey.

Honesty
Once you enter the workshop, you will officially be entering into a 'NO BS' zone. Storytelling is based on truth, warts and all.

Enthusiasm and Openness
You're going to work hard and play hard in this workshop. Be ready to celebrate the transformations of yourself as well as the rest of your colleagues.

What You Can Expect

Clarity
Sometimes brilliance and innovation comes at a cost. You have so many great ideas and you personally offer so much, that it can be difficult to articulate everything clearly. We're gonna break that code in this class.

Confidence
There is good news and bad news. The Bad News: your business isnot unique. The good, no GREAT news is: you are. You will be encouraged to stop hiding behind your product and let the world see the total, complete story. I know it's a good one too. I just know it. When you're done, you and your business will have the tools to stand heads above the competition.

Momentum
Time is money, money is time and you have a little of both (hopefully, enough of both for this course...smiles). You need something that you can implement and adapt easily without having to do the equivalent of parting the Red Sea to make it happen. You want to connect with the right market and build trust quickly. We'll help you with that.

Our Promise

user-image-mediumWe promise to bring you our very best. From the time you walk in the door, you are under our care and we are fully committed to your success, before, during and after this workshop. What you are about to take on isn't easy work. We get it because we've been through the process again and again. However, you are amongst friends and please take comfort in the fact that you now have a new set of scrappy, weather-tested fans to fill up your 'amen' corner. (smiles) Let's get to work!

Megan and the team at TorranceLearning have adapted the principles of Agile project management from the software world to suit any project.

Oct 22    Transformational Leadership : Looking at it from the Inside Out

Dr. Bob Wright has been helping entrepreneurs, small business owners, educators, and executives upset the apple cart and drive to wildly successful results for over 30 years. Not surprisingly, the people he coaches and trains see him as a master agent of empowerment—a trump card in their lives. Dr. Wright believes leadership style is a reflection of who you are. By challenging your limiting beliefs, experimenting with new behaviors, increasing your social and emotional intelligence, and increasing your consciousness and awareness, you can move mountains.

In this session of the Speaker Series, Dr. Wright will teach you how to manage your career or business and run your life in a way that is authentic to who you are —delivering results while giving you, your employees, and your colleagues a sense of meaning and satisfaction every day. Oct 29    A2Y Chamber Event: Michigan Theater Screening of Nosferatu

Help us celebrate the return of the historic Barton Organ! Featuring live accompaniment by Stephen Warner of his original score.

A2Y Chamber Members and Patrons who purchase the VIP package are invited to a special pre-show reception with drinks and hors d’oeuvres from 6:00-7:00 PM in the Michigan Theater grand foyer. The VIP package also includes reserved seating for the film screening at 7:30 PM.

One of the silent era’s most influential masterpieces, Nosferatu‘s eerie, gothic feel — and a chilling performance from Max Shrek as the vampire — set the template for the horror films that followed. The earliest surviving screen adaptation of Bram Stoker‘s Dracula has had a long and dangerous life of its own. Almost destroyed by Stoker’s widow because of copyright infringement, this film has outlasted many others of the silent era. There are many new releases of Nosferatu and all this goes to show that, “You can’t keep a good vampire down.”
