Apr 7    Ari Lipsky Speaks at Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor
Please join Ann Arbor Kiwanians as Ari Lipsky, Music Director/Conductor of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, discusses music and the Symphony's current season.

Born in Israel where he received extensive training as a cellist and as a flutist, Arie Lipsky was just nine when he won the first of many prestigious musical competitions allowing him to solo with his town’s orchestra.  After this impressive success, he began to appear in concerts throughout Israel and Europe.  Mr. Lipsky subsequently began serious study of composition and conducting.  His mentors include Semyon Bychkov, Yoel Levi and Kurt Mazur in conducting and Pablo Casals and Leonard Rose on cello.  He holds degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and Music which he received before serving in the Israeli Army.

After moving to the United States, Mr. Lipsky served as Assistant Conductor of the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Ohio Opera.  He moved to Buffalo in 1984 to become the Buffalo Philharmonic’s principal cellist and in 1990, he became the Resident Conductor.  In early 1995, on short notice, Arie replaced the late Eduardo Mata conducting the Israel Chamber Orchestra, where his success resulted in return engagements with many of Israel’s orchestras.  Lipsky also conducted the Arthur Rubinstein Orchestra in Lódz, Poland.   Lipsky is the Music Director of the Ashland Symphony (Ohio), Principal Guest Conductor of Haifa Symphony Orchestra, and also conducts major orchestras in the United States, Canada and Europe. Mr. Lipsky was named A2SO's thiteenth conductor in 2000.

The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra is a premier regional orchestra offering live, symphonic music for audiences of diverse ages and classical music experiences. The A2SO touches the lives of over 76,000 people every year, from tiny tots to seasoned citizens in venues ranging from the Michigan Theater to Hill Auditorium, as well as schools in the five-county area including Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and Dexter District Libraries, and senior citizen centers.

Apr 9    ZingTrain Speaker Series : Think like an Actor, Speak like a Pro

Session TItle :
JOEL DALY : HOW TO TAKE THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE LESSONS FROM GREAT BUSINESSES AND MAKE THEM WORK IN YOURS!

Have you ever asked yourself these questions?

HOW can we innovate for the customer at all levels to show our vision, values, culture and brand?

HOW do we know that our vision, values, culture and brand are valued by our target customer and market segment?

WHAT new markets will find our offerings distinctly valuable compared to the competition?

WHAT are the customer’s problems, needs, desires, passions and goals that we can satisfy?

AND how do we do it in a distinctive way that our target market and customers will find valuable?

The folks at Hosting.com did!

Hosting.com is a high performance cloud hosting and management company. Recognizing that in their world [and we firmly believe in any world] if you're not wowing your customer, you might as well exit the playing field, Hosting.com set out to intentionally and strategically create an authentic customer-centric service culture. And to do that they looked at businesses that are known for their customer service (including us, blush!) and applied the best of what they saw to create their customer service strategy.

COME to this session to hear about why and how Hosting.com created an extraordinary service experience for their customers and employees.

Apr 23    ZingTrain Speaker Series : An Arsenal of A's

Here's why it's a great idea to listen very closely to what Stephen Gill has to say : he's worked in the field of Human Performance Improvement for decades. He's written books about it. He's based his consulting practice on it. He teaches it. He talks about it. And he's really, really good at it. In fact, Stephen Gill is the guy to talk to if you want to create a culture of learning in your organization and then get concrete evidence that the culture is resulting in performance improvements.

Come to this session and hear what Stephen Gill has to say IF :

YOU want your employees to be more effective at their jobs.

YOU and your employees spend valuable organizational resources (yes, we're talking about bandwidth, time and money) on training but you're not sure you're seeing the greatest benefits you can from the investment.

YOU want to beat this statistic : 10-15% of employees apply what they learn in training to their day-to-day work.

YOU want to hear about Stephen Gill's 5A Framework - a simple yet powerful model to help you ensure that the investment you’re making in time, money, and effort to train your employees makes a difference in the success of your organization!

Do you pay taxes, use services from or interact with state or local government, or own or work for a business? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you should know about the A2Y Chamber's Headline Lunch on Monday, April 28th (further details below). We have a unique program to educate and inform attendees on Michigan's Personal Property Tax (PPT), how it will be reformed, and the important upcoming August ballot question.

The PPT presents a unique challenge to our state; it's an uncompetitive tax on business and industrial equipment, yet local governments rely on this revenue to fund services.  To meet this challenge the Michigan Legislature recently passed a package of bi-partisan legislation ensuring PPT reform does not cut funding to local governments. Key to this legislative effort was Washtenaw County's own
State Senator Rebekah Warren (D-18). However, these changes will only take effect if voters approve them at the ballot this August, and there is still a lot for business owners and local governments to learn about:
  • Why the PPT is in need of reform;
  • How the reform works;
  • Learn why such a broad spectrum of stakeholders are in support of this plan;
  • What you should know ahead of the August 2014 PPT vote
To answer these questions we have a program of three influential speakers:

State Senator Rebekah Warren,
Michigan's 18th Senate District

Mike Johnston,
Vice President of Government Affairs for the Michigan Manufacturers Association

Tricia Kinley,
Senior Director of Tax & Regulatory Reform for the Michigan Chamber of Commerce

Our panel has firsthand knowledge on the substance and process of PPT reform. Their expertise can provide you with the information you need to know.
