Michigan Theater Offers Special Film Events

Date: October 8, 2010
Event Description October delivers a significant number of
special one-off film events at the Michigan.
ANN ARBOR, Michigan – No matter what your taste in film or events, the Michigan Theater looks to cater to all with an unusual amount of single one-off film events throughout the month of October.

With a number of these special engagements happening exclusively at the Michigan and no where else in the Southeastern Michigan vicinity, Director of Sales and Marketing Drew Waller recommends that “this is the month to truly fall in love with the Michigan Theater.” He adds, “Where else can you find a venue that imports cult film favorites from across continents [Suspiria], offers sneak previews to locally-made, buzz-worthy festival favorites [Answer This!] AND creates special fan events like Grease Sing-A-Long, all in one place? I can’t think of any and I am glad to be part of a place that does!” The events include:
  • SUSPIRIA
Saturday, October 2 at 10 PM “One of the scariest movies of all time.” – Entertainment Weekly Dario Argento’s 1977 Suspiria is known globally as a masterpiece of Italian horror cinema and the Michigan Theater will present a one-time screening of this cult classic with the original, rare, imported 35mm print. The national tour of the UK print is proving to be a highly anticipated cultural event. Regular movie prices apply.
  • SNEAK PREVIEW EVENT: ANSWER THIS!
Friday, October 8 at 7:30 PM With a live appearance by the cast and crew, this event is an opportunity to be a part of the first audience ever to see this locally-produced film before it begins its festival run next year. Filmed in Ann Arbor in partnership with the University of Michigan, the movie is written, directed and produced by Ann Arbor-natives Christopher and Michael Farah and uses landmarks and backdrops familiar to all in the area. Tickets are $10 / $8 for Michigan Theater members.
  • GREASE SING-A-LONG
Thursday, October 14 at 7:30 PM & Sunday, October 17 at 5 PM Join Sandy, Danny, Rizzo, Frenchie and all your favorites on-screen as the Michigan delivers two special sing-a-long screenings of the 1978 classic musical film. Complete with costume parade, goodie bags, on-screen lyrics and more, ‘Greased Lightning’ only strikes twice with this limited engagement. Tickets $12 / $10 students, seniors and US veterans / $8 Michigan Theater members.
  • BEETLE QUEEN CONQUERS TOKYO
Tuesday, October 19 at 7:00 PM Presented by the Ann Arbor Film Festival, this visually arresting documentary looks at Japan’s age-old obsession with insects. With the country’s culture blending this species into meditation, fashion, video games and even pets, Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo will prompt viewers to take a closer look at what it means to truly ‘bug out.’ Regular movie prices apply.
  • NOSFERATU
Thursday, October 28 at 7:30 PM Celebrate an Ann Arbor Halloween tradition of this silent film classic the way it was always intended to be featured, with live organ accompaniment from renowned organist Steven Ball. Horror-film fanatics call F.W. Murnau's silent German classic the scariest Dracula adaptation ever. Tickets $15 / $12 students, seniors and US veterans / $10 Michigan Theater members.

All noted events will happen concurrently with the Michigan Theater’s regularly scheduled film programming.
