Fun Tour and Trick or Treat at Cemetary

Frightened of cemeteries? Pick up some Halloween candy Wednesday, October 20 at the Marble Park Cemetery and join the fun. The walking tour starts at 6 p.m. Hear about some fascinating people from Milan’s past, including some famous leaders from long ago and a few shady characters. The program is free and open to the public. Along the way, tour guides will pass around plenty of trick-or-treat candy as part of the entertainment. Arrive at the Civil War monument off Platt Road to start the tour. Members of the Milan Area Historical Society will tell the stories of Nathan Putnam, Milan’s first village president, and David Hitchcock, an early business owner. Joel Marble, who set up the cemetery, has a family plot on the tour list. A few more recent Milan notables are on the tour, including Arleigh and Martha Squires, and Eli and Shumla Bassitt. The tour will finish off with Warren Hale.
